Things I know:

*My hair is now really, really auburn and about 6 inches shorter. I like.

*My gallbladder is wonky and may have to come out. I do not like.

*House is terribly, terribly addictive. I am up to the latter half of the second season (just watched "Sex Kills") It is impossible to not ship House/Wilson. I really like.

I've been wanting a tattoo for awhile now. And I recently discovered a quote that has stood out to me and has inspire me to turn it into a beautiful tattoo.

The quote is:

“Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were once only walls.” - Joseph Campbell

I'm just looking to get "follow your bliss" on the inside of my ankle, with a bit of a curve.

The list of 25 finalists for 2010 induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame was released today. Can I get a drumroll?

*drumroll*

So, folks. If you had to pick a class of five of these guys (or six, if you include one of the two "senior" candidates), what would your 2010 HoF class be?

NFL Pick correction

Ben Roethlisberger's out, so I'm changing my pick from Pittsburgh to Baltimore. I should've already anyway, cuz I knew he wouldn't be 100% even if he did play, but this sealed the deal. :P

I'm sure you cared. :)

A small batch, just because.

Okay, I have a few questions about the tattoo I'd like. I know I want to get quotation marks on each forearm, right under the crook of my elbow. However, I have no idea what fonts quotation marks look good in or how painful that spot is. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!

I really hate when communities delete their entries. That's twice in one week, P101. Sheesh.

another ideas post

I am a creative writing major, and I've been wanting a tattoo for ages and ages. I'm technically not supposed to get one, but I am finding ways to work around my parent's wishes. This is what I know I want: a tattoo, in typewriter font, on my ribcage, preferably in white ink (I know the complications involved).

The only thing I have issues with is deciding what to get.
Right now, I have four ideas. Two from "Everything is Illuminated" and two from Kerouac.
I can't get cuts to work, sorry.

1 and 2 are from the same paragraph of Everything is Illuminated. My favorite paragraph in the whole novel. I bought this book because of this paragraph.
1. "If there is no love in the world, we will make a new world..."
2. This one is longer, and somewhat depressing, which is why I have hesitations about getting it, but the line has stuck with me for so long.
I would center it like this
<c>Love me,
because love
doesn't exist,
and I've tried
everything
that does.
</c>

3. This is from Kerouac's Big Sur, and also the title of the album Benjamin Gibbard and Jay Farrar did based on it. In the book, Kerouac is basically saying it's one fast move or he's gone into another existential depression that can't be cured by any amount of liquor or chemicals.
"One fast move or I'm gone."
4. I don't have the exact text for this in front of me, but it is something the sea yells to Jack in Big Sur/ his poem The Sea
"Go to your desire, and laugh."

Sorry this is so text heavy!

Michael Symon's Roast

  • Nov. 28th, 2009 at 9:42 AM
I will post more in-depth about our Thanksgiving trip to Michigan, but first I wanted to post about Michael Symon's Roast.

So, I am a ridiculously huge fan of the Food Network and the celebrity chefs on it. When I learned that Iron Chef Michael Symon had a restaurant in Detroit I simply could not pass up the opportunity to go while we were back in Michigan for Thanksgiving with the families. So, we made reservations for the day after Thanksgiving and took Matt's mom.

It is downtown off Michigan and Washington in he new Westin that was redone for the super bowl. It is meticulous designed with a modern looks. We were seated right away even though we were early for our reservations. Our waitress, Liz, was very attentive throughout the process and we really enjoyed her recommendations for food and drinks. Ethel had even forgotten her glasses so was unable to read the menu and Liz recommended some things to her based on her description of what she typically liked. She wanted a white wine and we told her she liked Rieslings and Liz offered a German Riesling that wasn't sickenly sweet and very fruity. It was perfect. [info]oneandonlymatt and I each ordered a beer to start with off the "beer list for wine enthusiasts" which were exactly as described. They were all artisan or Belgian brewed beers.

We started the dinner with a couple of appetizers: steak tar-tar and stuffed peppers. The steak tar-tar was perfect. It came with a uni mousse on top and a little avocado and lime mix on the side. The portion was perfect and the three of us shared it easily. The stuffed peppers, we were warned, could be very hot. Since the peppers themselves were heirloom there was no telling their heat until you actually ate them. Ethel and Matt found them extremely hot but I found them delightful.

After the appetizers we went right into dinner. Ethel had the short rib at Liz's recommendation. Matt had the Roast Beast of the Day which was lamb. I ordered the wild boar. We also ordered three sides to share: mac and cheese, spinach and feta au gratin and fried brussel sprouts. We asked Liz for her recommendation of a good beer with dinner and she offered a larger bottle of beer to share - collaboration between a Belgian brewery and Sierra Nevada that was a winter seasonal beer. It wasn't hoppy but was brewed with great seasonal spices like clove and ginger and cinnamon. It was as she described, perfect with our meals. The meals were also as described. The mac and cheese was my favorite and I am not sure exactly what cheeses it was made from, but it was amazing. All three meats were superb but Ethel's short rib was probably my favorite of all of them.

After dinner, Liz brought the dessert menu. We weren't originally going to get dessert but we found ourselves intrigued by the Guinness and Pretzel ice cream. We asked that she wait until we were done with our beer, since we were afraid that the flavors would mix improperly. She did just that and as soon as our beer was gone, the ice-cream arrived. It was everything you could imagine Guinness Ice Cream could be and with the salty pretzels it was divine.

I would highly recommend going to Michael Symon's Roast if you find yourself in Detroit. Keep in mind that it is not a cheap dinner, but the food is well worth the price in my opinion. The Iron Chef did not disappoint.

NFL Watches

Heya, with state budget cuts my kiddo's autism classes were significantly reduced. She desperately needs speech therapy so in an effort to raise the much needed funds, we are holding a little family fundraiser for her. If you or anyone you know might want to purchase one of these watches, please send them my way! They are 19.99+tx and all proceeds go towards her services! Thank you in advance! (They retail for $49.99)
